We were in a wreck my daughter received a ticket for what we thought was no seatbelt went to pay it and was?

told that it was for a child 3-7 not being restrained in a booster she is 8 and does not legally have to be in a booster. Was told that the fine would be reduced if we took booster to police station she does not even have one anymore. She was not wearing a seat belt but the ticket is for something that does not even apply to her should I just pay it or go to court and take my chances there?
